Professor Tom Kirchmaier

Tom is Director of the Policing and Crime research group focusing on understanding the full spectrum of questions relating to policing and crime, with a special focus currently on Domestic Abuse, Demand Prediction, Police Organizational Efficiency, AML and Organised Crime, as well as Knife Crime, Gangs, and Drug Markets. He works with very large datasets from the police and other sources. Prior to the CEP, Tom was with the Financial Markets Group, and the Manchester Business School. Tom holds a PhD in Management from the LSE.

Keynote Presentation: Rapid response detects crime, and double crewing is more than twice as good

Policing matters. What you do, and how you do it has a real impact on the outcome. For this, I report the results of two empirical papers, the first one studying the impact of Police response time on the likelihood of detecting a crime, and the second one of single vs. double crewing again on the likelihood of crime detection, and officer safety. In both cases we argue that better resourcing would pay for itself.
