Solving complex problems in policing; how to reduce demand and have a long-lasting effect on community safety

Facilitator: Lisa Tompson

Although we now have decades of evidence that problem-oriented policing (POP) is effective at reducing crime, policing agencies across the globe have found POP difficult to institutionalise. This is because it pulls away from traditional policing tactics and requires a different set of tools. This workshop will cover what those tools are. These include:
• Popular frameworks for guiding problem-solving
• How to ask incisive questions that get to the heart of the problem
• Shifting ownership of problems to those better positioned to act
• How problem-solving efforts can build a bank of ‘practice-based evidence’ for evidence-based policing
