Presentation

Making up for being female’ – Work–life balance, medical time and gender norms for women in the New Zealand senior medical workforce; translating to the policing context

This presentation explores observations of gender bias in medicine, and questions whether similar issues exist for women in policing.  The focus of this presentation is on the significance of hours of work; why working long hours matters for those with significant domestic commitments and how expectations for all hours work is gendered, regardless of profession. The presentation sketches out questions for further research including the need to explore how gendered notions of dedication and commitment can pose risks for burnout for women in policing.
