Gender Diversity in Policing Symposium

For decades, women have been significantly underrepresented in policing and the growth has stagnated over recent years.  However, a growing body of scientific research highlights the unique value women officers bring to policing, including impacts on public safety and community perception of police. This symposium aims to advance gender equity, diversity, and inclusion. You will have the opportunity to connect with local and international experts to explore promising practices for advancing gender equity in your agency, engage in thought provoking presentations, plenary sessions and panel discussions as we explore the challenges and opportunities related to diversity in policing.

This agenda takes inspiration from the 30×30 Initiative’s focus on increasing the representation of women in policing to 30% by 2030 and emphasizes the importance of research-backed approaches to achieve gender parity in law enforcement [oai_citation:1,30×30 Initiative](https://30x30initiative.org/) [oai_citation:2,About 30×30](https://30x30initiative.org/about-30×30/) [oai_citation:3,The 30×30 Pledge – 30×30 Initiative](https://30x30initiative.org/the-30×30-pledge/) [oai_citation:4,30×30 Initiative: Why we need more women in policing and how to achieve it](https://cops.usdoj.gov/html/dispatch/03-2021/initiative.html) [oai_citation:5,3-2021: Policing Agencies Join Growing National Coalition to Advance Women Officers — The Policing Project](https://www.policingproject.org/30×30-launch-release).
