Dr SallyAnn Harbison

Director, Forensic Science Programme, Waipapa Taumata Rau/University of Auckland

SallyAnn is the Director of the Forensic Science Programme at Waipapa Taumata Rau/University of Auckland and is a Senior Science Leader and the DNA Technical Leader of the Forensic Biology Group of ESR where she has been a forensic scientist since 1988, specializing in body fluid identification and DNA analysis. SallyAnn received a New Zealand Science and Technology Medal in 1996 for her contribution to the development and application of DNA systems for forensic science, has an MNZM for services to Forensic Science, and is a Fellow of the Academy of the Royal Society Te Apārangi. SallyAnn is recognised internationally for providing casework-ready, accredited science for the justice sector derived from her research activities. She is currently researching forensic applications of next-generation sequencing (massively parallel sequencing).
