American Crime Scientist & Environmental Criminology Expert

Dr Tamara D. Herold is an American crime scientist and internationally recognized expert in environmental criminology, crime prevention, place management, and crowd dynamics. Her work focuses on how places, crowds, and situational conditions shape crime opportunities, and on translating scientific evidence into practical strategies for policing and public safety.

She co-developed the Place Network Investigations (PNI) violence reduction strategy, which received the 2017 Herman Goldstein Award for Excellence in Problem-Oriented Policing.

Dr Herold is a former Senior Advisor to the U.S. National Institute of Justice and an Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is currently a Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Texas State University and the Director of the TXST Center for Problem-Oriented Policing.
